Suggested Gospel: Matthew 24:1-8

Prayer of the Day

God of new visions, we call on you, and you reveal your mysteries to us.  You show us your kingdoms, and you have promised us a kingdom that will never be destroyed.  Give us faith to pursue you and your promises.
Amen.

Prayers of the Church (traditional)

God of wisdom and vision, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

A brief silence.

We pray for the unity of the church.  Where there is division, unite us.  Where there is discord, sow the seeds of love.  Where there is conflict, bring peace.  Bring us together to do the work of your kingdom.  Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

We pray for the whole of your creation.  Sustain those who steward all that you have made.  Comfort those who are affected by natural disasters.  Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

We pray for those called to leadership.  In the contentious election season, give us all kindness and compassion as we prepare to elect new leaders.  Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

We pray for all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit.  Heal and restore the sick, and encourage their caregivers and families. We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?
Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

We pray for those who have gone on before us and now stand among all the saints in our great cloud of witnesses.  We give thanks for the roles they have played in our lives and in our faith.  Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.

In thanksgiving for all you have done for us, we bring these and all our prayers to you, trusting in your boundless mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Prayers of the People (contemporary)

Let us pray.

God of wisdom and vision, we come to you in prayer for the church, the world, and all those in need.

We pray for the unity of the church.  Where there is division, unite us.  Where there is discord and conflict, bring us together in peace to do your work in the world.

We pray for our political leaders and those running for office.  In a process that quickly can devolve and descend into mudslinging and name-calling from all parties, fill us all with kindness and peace and truth.

We pray for all who suffer in body, mind, and spirit.  Sustain their caregivers and encourage their friends and family.  We pray especially for those from our community who are receiving hospice care: **insert names here**. For what and for whom else do the people of God pray?

In thanksgiving for all that you have done for us, we bring these and all our prayers to you, trusting in your boundless mercy, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
