Job Description – Secretary

Summary

  • The Secretary is the first impression of Ascension Lutheran Church to the community. Their welcoming, grace-filled presence is an example of who we are. The Secretary serves as the first point of contact for phone calls, emails and office visitors, supporting the mission, vision and values of Ascension Lutheran Church. The efficient completion of their duties is essential to the success of the church’s ministries.

Qualifications

  • Proficient on Mac computers
  • Ability to navigate phone system
  • Experience with Google Workspace environment

Essential Job Functions

  • Greet visitors and callers, directing inquiries to appropriate people, taking messages as needed
  • Monitor and order supplies, including but not limited to office, copier, hospitality and paper products
  • Maintain copies of monthly and annual Church Council and Finance Committee meetings and reports
  • Coordinate church calendar and facility use requests
  • Create and maintain monthly schedule for Ministry Partners
  • Coordinate Ministry Partners during worship
  • Create and publish monthly newsletter
  • Maintain member records
  • Send weekly e-blast via Constant Contact
  • Direct questions regarding maintenance of the building and grounds to Properties Chair
  • Photocopy and prepare/distribute documents as directed by staff
  • Performs other duties as outlined in the desk manual as required to keep the church office running smoothly and efficiently

Details

  • Part-time (25 hours per week)
  • Sunday 7:45 am – 12:45 pm
  • Monday – Thursday 9am – 2pm
  • $20/hour
  • 1 year administrative experience required. Experience working in church/ministry preferred
  • Live Scan background screening required
  • Support the mission of Ascension Lutheran Church, and confess a faith in Jesus Christ.
